That was a 4km run on its own so I didn't fancy the 11km Course 1 or even the 8.5km Course 1a, settling on Course 2 at a mere 5.3km. Controls 1 and 2 returned to locations I had already visited on the memory course and then we had two long legs from 2 to 3 and then from 4 to 5. I chose to go left (east on the first, west on the second) on both legs while Jonty went right on both. Both of us were convinced we had run the better option.
Back in the college, the difference between a sprint event and a Summer Series park event was obvious as we gingerly made our way around the school trying to read the map at 1:8000. The result was more memory map stuff as I stopped or slowed and peered intently at the map then tried to run as far and as fast as I could before stopping to repeat the process.
So two races tonight - and I beat Jonty in both of them. This helps to redress the balance from Sprint the Bay where he took the honours 4-2. For those of you interested in the score, I make it 5 all for all events this year, 7-2 to me for this season's Summer Series and 11-6 in all events since I started this blog. The numbers should rise rapidly over the next few weeks as we enter the time of year when we have both a Secondary School Sprint series (that I run unofficially where possible) and a Summer Series event every week.
