I picked up this book while looking for something to read on holiday. I wasn't impressed with the first chapter where Rob describes how unprepared he was - in my experience, when someone describes being unprepared they almost certainly won't complete the journey. Rob turned out to be the exception to this rule and I'm pleased he did. Rob writes well and focuses mostly on the people he meets rather than the landscape he is travelling through. He is one of those people who can always start up a conversation with those around him, even when they don't have a language in common. Over a priod of three years and a bit he got plenty of opportunities to meet lots of interesting people and he shares some compelling stories. As a Christian he spends time considering the state of Christianity in various countries and also writes about the other religions he encounters on the way. I found this aspect of the book particularly interesting.
